Once a month all SCJ students and their families are invited to join together for a Shabbat evening service, in one of the student’s homes. In these exciting services, while Misha leads the service and explains the prayers, it is the students themselves who come “on stage” and sing the various songs and prayers that make up the service. These services bring the students’ learning to a public space, where they can experiment with it in a group setting.

In addition to this, the school has launched a series of field trips, some for the whole school, and others for Bar/Bat Mitzvah students. Students have been to the Jewish Museum, and additional trips are planned to Brooklyn’s Ultra Orthodox neighborhoods (site of Chaim Potok’s The Chosen, which many of the students read as preparation for their Bnai Mitzvah), to Soup Kitchens and old age homes, and to the Museum of Jewish heritage.
